Wir betrachten die binomische Formel

(x−a)2=x2−2ax+a2

und subtrahieren a2 von beiden Seiten

(x−a)2−a2=x2−2ax.

Mit dieser Formel können wir den Ausdruck x2−2ax wie (x−a)2−a2 schreiben.

Der Ausdruck x2−2x entspricht a=1, und daher haben wir

x2−2x=(x−1)2−1.
