In order that the equation is satisfied, one of the factors on the left-hand side, \displaystyle \text{3}x-\text{2 } or \displaystyle x+\text{8}, must be zero, and this gives us that the solutions are \displaystyle x={2}/{3}\; and \displaystyle x=-\text{8}.
