<li>Commands start with a backslash (\) in TeX. Therefore, write <tt>\tan</tt> and not <tt>tan</tt>. Arguments to trigonometric functions should be written without parentheses, i.e. <tt>\tan x</tt> and not <tt>\tan(x)</tt>.</li>
<li>Don't hack your own symbols. Use <math>\Leftrightarrow</math> (<tt>\Leftrightarrow</tt> in TeX).</li>
